Shan-Shan explores the fuzzy border between art and design and she is perfectly
at home in both environments. Her work also investigates and crosses the
borders between Chinese and European traditions and between East and West
in general. This is the reason why she came to Murano to work with a master
blower and produce exquisite Venetian glass objects reinterpreting classic
Chinese themes. Shan-Shan is equally interested in contemporary themes,
which she renders in architectural glass or on canvas.
Born in Shangai, Shan-Shan came to the United States to pursue her academic
and artistic interests. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst, after which she was an artist-in-residence
at Harvard for two years. She currently lives and works in San Francisco.
Shan-Shan has had over 20 one-woman shows in Europe, Asia and America and
her creations are part of numerous public collections such as Harvard University,
Amoco Corporation in Chicago, China National Art Museum in Beijing, Shangai
International Convention Center, etc.
