"Bad Boy, Good Girl?"
Centered on the creations of maverick Dutch design-artist Ted Noten, the
June 5 - July 4 exhibition at the design-e-space
gallery adds a second dimension by juxtaposing a few, somewhat uncharacteristic works by the highly successful young designer
Kiki van Eijk, who was once Ted Noten's student in Eindhoven.
The show attempts to explore gender differences in conceptual approaches
to design. The touchy issues of political correctness and political controversy
are addressed in highly personal ways by the 2 artists. At least in this
selection of artists and works, it looks like "boys will be boys".
It is not that Kiki's works are less daring or controversial than Ted's
pieces, but we seem to have here a palpable difference in world views.
Ted Noten's signature mischievous, "politically incorrect", sometimes amusing and sometimes shocking art stands
in contrast to the lyrical, elegant and -uncharacteristically for her- rather gloomy pieces by Kiki van Eijk.
CONTAMINATION!
Globalisation, Transformation, Mutation
From September 12 to October 11, 2008, concomitant with Venice's Architecture Biennial, the design-e-space gallery will present works
by 7 young designers from 5 countries.
They are: the Venetian designer Federica Fulici; Brunno Jahara, a Brazilian-born
designer living in Venice; Daria Shashorina from Moscow; Hunn Wai, a Singaporean
born in London who resides in several countries; and 3 members of the Dutch
group "The Green Dogs": Rosalie Bak, Lola Hesp, Liesbeth Huizing.

Gallery Artists
design-e-space presents a selection of works by the artists of the gallery: Joost van Bleiswijk, Kiki van Eijk, Ted Noten and Shan-Shan Sheng.
Ted Noten
Ted Noten calls himself a jeweller. He likes to see his creations come
to life in the interactions between people who wear them and people who
watch those who wear them. Ted worries that his work would wither away
and die if he hangs it up on the walls of galleries as art pieces. The
best way to describe his difficult to classify creations could be "wearable
conceptual art pieces". (continued)

Shan-Shan Sheng
The inaugural exhibition of the design-e-space gallery in Venice presents
the work of 3 young but already accomplished artists-designers.
The designers, though working in different media, with different techniques
and sensibilities, have in common a desire to reinterpret tradition.
The main theme of the show can be defined as détournement, the diversion of materials. (continued)
